Facebook is No Place for Photos of Restaurant Food!

....at least according to my humorously critical, yet always quite sexy buddy.  I somewhat agree, though I do have a whole album on Facebook dedicated to food I have made.  So, yeah, I can be hypocritical at times.  You know what's a perfect avenue for posting restaurant food pics?!  A BLOG!
I'm going to document a recent trip to LA.  I went there to see Jenny and Johnny open for Belle and Sebastian at the Hollywood Palladium, Oct 2010.  The next morning, my friend Christina and I went to a little place called Millie's Coffee Shop in Silverlake.  It's now totally one of my favorite restaurants, and I want to go back to LA simply to eat there again!  They infuse the water with mint!  The menu is enormous!  Meat eaters and vegans can go there alike! And it's divey.  Totally my kind of place.  Here's what I had...
My knee was lookin' good!

This is the No Huevos Rancheros.  I still think about it.  Tofu, soy cheese, guacamole, black beans and a pile of vegetables atop corn tortillas.  Amazing! You owe it to yourself to go there.  http://www.milliescafe.net/

I had this Jenny and Johnny song stuck in my head the whole time.  Christina and I, along with my friend Jess, had all been to the show the night before and in this particular song they mention Silverlake, a section of LA I had not previously been to.  It being stuck in my head def had nothing to do with all that noise about no booze and going to Promises.  I won't even get into what happened at the Bar Marmont after the show.  Let's just say I must've been channeling Lindsay Lohan, but without all the drugs.

After the Millie's breakfast was digested, Jess and I went to Real Food Daily in Santa Monica, for dinner.  As you can see, the food looks super tasty.

Obviously, I ordered a burrito.  And....I liked my breakfast at Millie's so much better!  Sorry, RFD, that was one of the least delicious vegan meals I have ever had.  No flavor!  No salt!  No salt on the table!  So disappointing.  Jess loved her meal - a gluten free pizza if I remember correctly.  I'm going to guess it's because she has Celiac's and her options are so limited.  She just doesn't know any better.

A few months prior to the LA trip, I went to a wedding in San Diego, at Balboa Park.  My friends Nick and Alana really know how to put a party together!  Luckily for me, there was a vegan option on the menu.  And it was incredible.  Some mushroom, asparagus thing.  Love at first sight.  Plus, I quite like the way asparagus makes my pee smell.
Anyway, I couldn't eat the cake, so one of the other wedding guests became dessert.

I don't know what it is about SoCal that makes me go so bonkers.  So glad my bad girl days are over....

  5. Ces, I still think of you EVERY time someone says "guac"...your enduring disdain for the term is admirable.
