Recipes - I have lots! I have spent the last 7 years as a baker/cake decorator, perhaps at some of your favorite restaurants/bakeries in Arcata, Chicago and now San Francisco. I have learned lots of techniques and recipes from working the back of the house. Many of my recipes are involved and time consuming, but that is because I am not a fan of using processed foods. I prefer to use real, whole food ingredients. I also believe the vegan diet does not have to be one in which tofu or soy products are served at every meal. On a final note, I am a person who chunks out big time when I consume too many carbs, so I try to keep my recipes as low carb as possible. Just cause I'm vegan, doesn't mean I want to live on pasta, bread, rice or qunioa. All those foods make me feel sick and lethargic, yet I can't go out to eat without one or more of those items ending up on my plate. Major dislike.
As far as my recipes being time consuming, I'm sure you can find little tricks to shorten your kitchen time. Restaurants prep many of their foods the night before, as do I, when I want to make something with many steps. This trick is especially important if you are having people over and need to spend the day going to work, then cleaning and getting yourself ready. A stressed out hostess/host makes for uncomfortable guests, which I have learned the hard way many a time. Give yourself a break sometimes, and buy pre-made pasta sauce, instead of making it from scratch. Or use store bought vegan cheese instead of making cashew cheese.
Some of my blog is lifestyle and traveling tips. Being vegan gets easier everyday, as does eating vegan while on the road. It's important, whether you are vegan or not, to live the most sustainable or 'green' life as you possibly can. It's time to end our flippant attitudes towards the demise of our planet. It'ss getting scary, you guys. More and more species go extinct everyday, natural habitats and plant life are destructed, and the pacific ocean is filling up with PLASTIC! Terrifying.
I love comments, so please feel free to leave them! I like flattering ones the best, but sometimes I may say something that you don't agree with, and though it's not my favorite, it's okay to call me out. Let's keep each other in check! I can admit I'm wrong every once in awhile. If you follow one of my recipes, please let me know how it turned out, if any of the measurements are off, as well as any substitutions you made.
This blog started out as a way to prove veganism is fun, that it's not impossible and that vegans are lovable and hilarious (or maybe just me). So crack open your beer and get to cooking/reading/shopping/traveling effervescent vegan style!.
I also contribute to Vegansaurus.com, so check me out there too! Follow me on twitter at @JennyBradley, Instagram and Vine @jennybradleyyo.
Being vegan has not effected my social life, as I have many friends and travel to many exotic locations, including Vegas.
The love of my life, lil' Indie Bradley. Sadly, she is a carnivore.
Happy reading! Come back soon!
